Cookie policy

Last updated 14 Aug 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies DevelopmentWala.org (“Platform”) uses, what each of them does, and the choices available to you.

It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information more generally.

1. What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand how a site is used.

We also use your browser's local storage, which works similarly but is not sent to our servers with every request. Where this policy refers to cookies, it covers local storage too.

2. Strictly Necessary Cookies

These are required for the Platform to work. They cannot be switched off through the site, because signing in is not possible without them.

  • dw_refresh — keeps you signed in between visits. It holds a session refresh token, is marked HttpOnly (so page scripts cannot read it), Secure (sent only over HTTPS) and SameSite=Lax (not sent on cross-site requests), and is scoped to the authentication path only. It is cleared when you sign out.

We do not use cookies to store your password. Your short-lived access token is held in memory only and is never written to a cookie or to local storage.

3. Local Storage We Use

  • Session state — your signed-in role and basic profile details, so the interface can render correctly on load without waiting for a network round trip.
  • Interface preferences — small settings such as dismissed prompts, so the site does not repeat them on every visit.

This data stays on your device. Clearing your browser's site data removes it and signs you out.

4. Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the Platform is used in aggregate — which pages are visited, which opportunity categories are searched, and where visitors encounter problems. This helps us decide what to improve.

  • _ga — distinguishes one browser from another. Typically expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_<container-id> — used by Google Analytics 4 to maintain session state. Typically expires after 2 years.

These cookies are set by Google as a third party, and the information collected is processed by Google. We do not use them to identify you by name, and we do not sell this data.

Please note that analytics cookies are currently set when you first load the Platform. If you would prefer not to be included, the browser controls and opt-out described below will prevent it.

5. What We Do Not Use

  • We do not use advertising or re-targeting cookies.
  • We do not use social-media tracking pixels. Links to our social channels are ordinary links and set nothing until you follow them.
  • We do not sell or share cookie data with data brokers.

6. How to Control Cookies

You can control cookies in several ways:

  • Browser settings — every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, in its Privacy or Site Data settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in.
  • Google Analytics opt-out — Google publishes a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout that stops Analytics data being sent from your browser to any site.
  • Clearing site data — removes both cookies and local storage for DevelopmentWala.org, and signs you out.
  • Do Not Track — where your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, we do not use it to build any additional profile of you.

7. Third Parties

Some pages display images or files served from third-party hosts, and our payment partner handles checkout when you purchase a paid plan. Those providers may set their own cookies under their own policies when their content or pages are loaded.

We do not control third-party cookies, and this policy does not cover them. Please refer to the relevant provider's own cookie and privacy notices.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as the Platform changes or as we add or remove tools. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised, and material changes will be communicated through the Platform.
